Are You Stuck?
Do you ever become stagnant in your life? Do you do the same thing everyday? Do you watch the same shows, drive the same route to work everyday, or hang out with the same people? Are you stuck in a routine that doesn’t serve you anymore?
Once in a college course our professor gave us two challenges for the week. The first was to take a different route to wherever we went, whether it was to work, school, lunch or the store. Wherever we went, we had to drive down new streets. It may have slowed us down a little but we might have seen some things from a new perspective. It taught us to enjoy the ride; perspective is everything. The second challenge was to say “Hello, how are you?” to everyone we met and then when they asked, in response we were to say, “Just came from the doctor, I only have one week to live.”
It seemed like a strange and somewhat inappropriate request but we tried it. The saddest part was many people said, “Oh glad to hear it,” and kept walking. We had to track who stopped to ask “Really?” and who said “Oh good,” and kept walking. You see, it was a test of who really listens, who is present and who really cares. Sometimes we are so caught up in our own lives and routines we forget to pay attention to those around us and what they are saying.
Take a moment this week to challenge yourself to make one new change in your routine to get yourself unstuck.
