Fake
What are your true colors?
I’ve never been one to care much about designer or brand names. I remember a friend once told me she could tell if something was a knock off, if it was fake stuff from Chinatown in San Francisco. I could never tell the difference. But the other day I was thinking “What’s fake and what’s real in the world?” I’ve also never been very good with small talk about the weather or sports, what brand you’re wearing or where you get your hair done. I like the real stuff, the good stuff. I like knowing your story, your truth. What you believe in, what you dream about, what you hope for, and how it did or didn’t work out as you had dreamed.
You see, I have no room for fake people in my life. I played pretend long enough, I’m ready for the real deal. I want to know the true story of who you are and why you think and feel the way you do. I want us to respect each other’s stories even if we have different beliefs. I want you to know you’re safe sharing your story with me without judgement.
A few weeks ago one of my friends said “I think your new name is Authentic Annie.” I don’t know how to be anyone but me anymore. For years I was fake, just so I could be like everyone else, to fit in, but today I just want to be the best version of myself. Let’s all stop living on the superficial level and start to really share and honor each other’s true story.
What is one way you live a fake life?
How and where do you feel safe to be authentic?
Where do you struggle showing your true colors?
