Do Something!
What is your goal for today?
What is one small step forward you could take to get to where you want to be?
It might sound simple, silly, or trite, but I often find myself repeating this on a daily basis. Sometimes I say it out loud, sometimes it’s just in my head, and at times, I even say it to another person. It’s simple to say, but it’s not always easily done. We tend to get so stuck in our own minds with planning, thinking, and researching that we forget to take action. Taking action is the key to moving forward and finding success.
For instance, even a small workout is better than no workout at all. I’m currently in a 100-day challenge with several women on Facebook, and part of that challenge is that we each need to do some sort of movement every day. We can do anything, from a 30 second plank to an all-day walk. Whatever we do, we share our accomplishments with one another and encourage each other along the way. I love it!
As a motivational speaker, I want to motivate and inspire people, but that only takes them so far. I want them to take action on their own. They need to do something, anything, something better or different, or even something uncomfortable so that they can grow and improve as individuals.
The other day I was giving a talk, and I usually throw out a couple of challenges, but I rarely have anyone say “yes” on the spot. I know for some that can feel uncomfortable, even impossible, but I invited this audience to join me on the MS150 ride I participated in, and this time two people said “yes” and then followed through and signed up. That’s the kind of motivation I want to deliver, the kind that makes you want to raise your hand, step up, stand out, and say YES! It’s all about taking the first small steps in life that can lead to the big changes for you and those around you.
What is your something? Is it a workout, a new goal, a challenge, or a change?
When someone tells you to do something does it motivate or frustrate you? Why?
If you could take one step forward what would it be towards or away from? #BethException #DoSomething #GoalSetting
