Handshake
Handshake verses a contract, Do you trust peoples word?
How do you do business? Is it all online? Do you need a contract? I did a big project recently for a new client and they asked if I would take a handshake as a contract? It was a bit unfamiliar to do that, because today most of my work is done with a contract. After I thought about it for a bit I said “Sure.” It felt good to openly trust someone.
I remember when people trusted and believed in one another. I’m often told by my family and friends that I shouldn’t be so trusting of people. They believe I’m an unrealistic, free spirit, foolish, hopeless romantic. Frankly, I agree with most of those assessments. I don’t understand what’s wrong with going through life with rose-colored glasses on. The world is filled with negative, cynical people and I don’t want to add to that.
As a result, I may get burned at times or people may betray me. I would rather be my rose-colored self and live with the hope and belief that most people are good and trustworthy. I say your word and a handshake will do for me; I wish we could all be trusting and trustworthy. I would rather be surrounded by people who trust each other than by all those living in fear. If I’m a bit unrealistic, so be it. I invite you to join me in my happy place. Who else wishes we could live again in a time when your handshake and your word were worth more than gold?
Is someones word enough for you? Do you trust people at their word, is a handshake still as valuable as a contract?
Do you take people at their word?
Do you trust people? Are you trustworthy?
Do you do what you say you’ll do?
