Bittersweet Moments
Life is filled with wonderful moments and memories. Unfortunately, many of the wonderful moments in life have an aspect of bitterness to them as well. Sometimes, it’s because life is moving too fast and other times, it’s because we must navigate struggle before we can see the silver lining.
Over time I’ve been working to focus, slow down, and enjoy the moments. I remember each senior year with my kids, I would find myself a little sad and reflective at how fast time had passed. Soon, they would all be moving off to college. Though I was excited for each of them to start the next chapter in life, it was bittersweet. Life changes once our kids move out, with more time between visits and less time with everyone gathered in one place as a family.
Recently, something truly beautiful happened; I had all three kids at home together. Matthew and his girlfriend were cooking while the rest of us joined them in the kitchen to hangout, visit, and eat. The best part? The kids even cleaned it up! In that moment so many memories flashed through my mind. Some were wonderful while others were challenging, but overall, I feel this stage in life is fabulous.
Each stage in life has many chapters. Though some are good, some are bad, and some are even ugly, all stages serve a purpose and move us to the next chapter. The next time you’re feeling bittersweet, I encourage you to stay present in the moment and take a mental snapshot for life.
