Congrats Class of 2020!
Congratulations to the Class of 2020! To all the families who have a student(s) graduating from high school or college, I wanted to make this a special Chooseletter to honor all those graduating in 2020.
To me, one of the most important lessons we can all take away from this unpredictable time in life is that each of us has a choice. A favorite saying I try to embody daily is, “Live by choice, not by chance or by circumstance.” Today, I’m thinking about the chances we have to honor those who have, or will, complete their high school or college career in 2020.
Many graduates have shared with me both their positive and negative thoughts and attitudes toward the changes and challenges they’re facing as they end this chapter in their lives. I hope they’ve taken away from our conversations my message that they have an endless amount of choices they can make; while we may be facing limitations right now, only they can make the choice to succeed.
We may be navigating patches of rocky ground at the moment, but there’s good to come, and the most important good that’s coming is what will come from each and every one of our graduates as the next generation of thought leaders! I think each of us can make a difference in the world without waiting for prompts from an outside source. Don’t wait for the politicians and leaders in your community, state, or the world to tell you how to make a difference – empower yourself through things you’re passionate about and start making a difference now!
For families mourning the loss of tradition and large celebrations, honor your feelings and support one another with love, then move forward with an eye to a future of change. As graduates and incoming thought leaders, each graduate can use what they’ve learned to start effecting change today, whether it be in their neighborhood, community, state, or beyond. The world is now theirs to discover!

Life will always throw challenges your way, but it’s up to you to decide to be better, not bitter. I encourage you to face each challenge knowing you have the power to make a difference and effect positive outcomes by choosing to make a change!
Class of 2020, I’m so proud of you! You did it, you rocked it! Your year may not have turned out as planned yet you learned lessons and overcame more obstacles than most in order to cross the finish line and celebrate your hard work! Whether high school or college, you’re done; yippee for you!
