So they say silence is golden…
However, I have to say that I find speaking a little more golden than silence. I recently was in a five hour car ride with my husband and youngest child. I found myself praying at one point that one of them would please start speaking. Even though, as I have gotten older, I have learned to enjoy some moments of silence, it is when it goes on for hours that it starts to bug me a bit. You see I love shared stories, the hope, dreams and fears that come up in conversation. I find the sharing of conversation a little more golden today than any amount of silence.
What about you? Do you long for noise, adventure, conversation and stories? Or do you seek silence, quiet and peace in your day? I think often it depends on what stage in life you are at. I remember my mom always saying, “All I want for my birthday, Christmas, Mother’s Day…etc. is peace and quiet, as a single mom with seven kids you can imagine how she craved the quiet. Today she may have more quiet than she bargained for living alone at 87. Sometimes we have to be careful what we wish for. I think I had years when the kids were younger and life was busier or more stressful that I longed for a little peace, quiet and serenity in my life. Today I get a little more quiet on a daily basis than I like, working alone, reading and writing alone. I love connection and conversation. In fact my love language is quality time, I love just getting together to hang out and talk. As a coach, how can I encourage my family to develop a more talkative side? Any way….who wants to go on a road trip and chat it up?
