Awesome & Amazing, What words do you use to describe your work?
Do you love your Career?
Are you enjoying your ride and the people you are sharing the journey with?
Have you ever spent a day with motivational speakers? In the group Toast Masters I believe they count the “ahs” and “ums” as you go through a speech. When I’m in a group of speakers, however, I like to count the “awesomes” and “amazings” that they use. These words have always seemed like normal, regular parts of conversation to me. When I hang out with people who aren’t speakers, I have a hard time figuring out why they aren’t more excited about life. Usually, the words “awesome” and “amazing” aren’t part of their regular vocabulary.
It suddenly dawned on me one day that we speakers might actually be the silly ones. We look for the good, the positive, the awesome, and the amazing in all situations. As speakers we find those superlatives in the people we meet and the stories they share. Some people say that speakers are a special breed or a bit of a freak-show, providing unique stories that come from all corners of the earth. If that’s the case, I’m happy to be that special breed and a part of that freak-show. I want to share my stories with the rest of the world, and experience the awesome and amazing people who come to listen to me speak.
What words would you use to describe the speaker you know?
What words are common with your co-workers? Are Awesome & Amazing a common part of your dialogue?
Are your words more encouraging or discouraging?
Do you look for the good in the people, the stories, and the situations around you?

Sometimes I set a timer for anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes and really get to work. I then allow myself to take a break get a little distracted for a few moments and then set my timer again and get back to work. How do you feed your starving soul?
I believe we’re all starving for something at some point in this life. What are you starving for? Searching for? Often I’ll hear someone say “I’m just starving,” and I wonder, do they even know what starving feels like? Are you starving for food, attention, money, love, affection? My next question is, what are you filling up on? Is it being busy, your kid’s activities, food, work, or shopping? How do you fill in the cracks and find contentment and peace in your lives? Personally, I feel ‘filled up’ when I have control in my life. I feel full when I have a plan, a schedule, a rhythm, or dare I say, a system. This is in spite of the fact that I try to resist systems and processes because I love changing it up. However, a few systems can serve you well.
For me, having Monday as a writing day at home starts my week out right. Getting up early and having time for praying, contemplating, exercising, writing my to do list, and preparing for my day starts me out on the correct foot. Going to bed at a reasonable time and close to the same time every night also helps me to stay on track. When I get out of my schedule and rhythm, I start to starve and become needy. I begin to feel that I’m teaching, training, and coaching out of an empty place. That’s why I believe self-care is so important. If we don’t take care of ourselves first, how can we serve our families, clients, and friends?
When do you show up empty, hungry, or starving?
How do you take care of you? What system, rhythm, or process keeps you from starving?
Do you schedule time for self-care?
