Do you focus on Obstacles or Opportunities?
We’re Moving…Will The Next Chapter Be Exceptional?
For the last 30+ years I’ve talked about moving south. I love the feel of summer weather all year, the heat of the sunshine, the beauty of the ocean, and all the people who love to spend their days outside.
This past winter, we spent two months living on Fort Myers Beach. Each day we enjoyed two to three walks on the beach, bike rides, tennis, and time in the pool which are all things I love doing outside. Even on the only rainy, cold day we experienced, we still got a couple dog walks in.
In my mind, the thought of moving has always been simple as I felt like if I just do it, everything will work out. However, I learned during our time there that it might be more complicated than I thought. When you’re close to the beach, many things are very expensive, not everyone loves dogs, and not all beaches allow dogs. I also started to think about our need to find a new church, doctor, dentist, vet… and the list continues.
Then I started thinking about all our opportunities to experience new beginnings, making new friends, discovering new places to hangout, and getting to know new neighborhoods. For someone like me who loves change, it can be hard to stay out of trouble sometimes. Following the last year of loss in many areas, I’m ready to make a change and say yes to a new chapter in Florida!
Before we made our decision, we talked to each one of our kids to be sure they were alright with where we wanted to go next. We were blessed to have their excitement and full support surrounding us which I’m incredibly grateful for.
We’ve made offers on two homes so far though we lost out on both; but by the time this hits your inbox, we may have found the place to call our new home! It’s easy to let fear of the unknown stop us from making moves in any area of our lives. However, I believe there’s always something better waiting on the other side. While we go through the process, I’m going to work hard to focus on the good while acknowledging the challenges and facing them head on.
This week, I encourage you to challenge your fear of the unknown and say yes to whatever move you’ve been waiting to make whether it be big or small. You never know what could be waiting for you right on the other side!
What does living your exceptional life look like to you?
What move have you been waiting to make? Are you ready?
When was the last time you made an important move? What motivated you?
What was the best part about the last move you made? Why?
This blog is from a while ago and now a new chapter back in MN will start the end of this year as I launch my Small Business Vistage group in MN. I just felt that this blog was a good reminder, life is always changing we can focus on the Obstacles or the Opportunities. I am so excited for my next Exceptional chapter ; )
25th Wedding Anniversary
Gratitude Goes On
Gratitude Goes On
November is just beginning and a grateful heart never has to end! I loved spending the last month focusing on and reading everyone’s gratitude posts. From the little things to the big things, and the many things in between, there’s an abundance of things for us to be grateful for each and every day, no matter how simple.
I hope as we move into the final month of this year, we don’t stop counting our blessings just because Thanksgiving has passed. Waking up with, living with, and sustaining a grateful heart can be challenging but is achievable by all and oh so worth it! When I focus on all I have and not what’s lacking, especially this year, it brings calm and joy to my day and my life overall.
A heart that’s full with gratitude overflows, creating an abundance mindset leading to practicing how to live from a place of generosity. For me, the first step is always gratitude which is quickly followed by generosity. It’s a place where I focus on all that I have which leads me to wanting to share with others.
Through COVID and spending more time at home I’ve found myself slowing down and noticing the smaller, beautiful moments I have to be grateful for. I love my early morning walks as the sun rises and my late evening walks under the moonlight. As I walk, I think about how I can share the calm and joy I feel. I often ask myself, “What can I give from my heart that’s so full?” Through that question, I ‘m able to determine what I can share and teach with others in my life that day and how I’ll serve them.
During this holiday season, I encourage you to choose someone to show your gratitude for through service to them or a donation to an organization in honor of them. There are so many people in our lives who are in need at this time. I believe showing them your gratitude will help fill their hearts, too!

Turning Ideas into Reality
Turning Ideas into Reality
Are you someone who’s full of ideas? Sometimes, when I begin coaching a new person in transition, they have hundreds, if not thousands of ideas which is always so exciting! I love helping them document all the things they want to do, could do, and think they should do. Once the list is created, we then start narrowing it down.
As I work with clients to narrow their lists down, we not only narrow them down to what they could do, but more importantly, what they would love to do and why it’s important to them. From there, we work to select their top ten most important ideas, followed by their top three, until finally we identify the top idea they want to explore.
We then work together to break down the components of the idea into a step by step, week by week plan to keep positive momentum going. Whether an idea is set professionally or personally, it still needs to be taken one step at a time and given great care.
I’ve always been a big dreamer, and over time I’ve learned that without an action plan and accountability, very little will be accomplished. Without a proper road map, some people may never see their idea in action because they get caught in the dreaming stage.
It’s important to me that I work with clients to make a plan, help them share that plan with others in their lives, then start coaching them through the plan to see them turn their idea into reality. One of my greatest joys as a coach is watching my clients achieve what they set out to do while walking alongside them to offer support.
This week, I encourage you to act on an idea you’ve long held in your mind! Take time for yourself to write that idea down, create a list of the steps you need to take to get there, and then break them down further by adding the who, what, how, and why to each step. From there, it’s time to start seeing your ideas as reality by taking the first step!
What does living your exceptional life look like to you?
Do you write your ideas down? Where do they go from there?
Do your ideas stay in your head and turn into daydreams?
What do you imagine building or creating? How would it help your life?
