Love
Oh, how I love the love: love letters, romantic movies, falling in love, staying in love, brotherly love, and the friendship of deep love.
Don’t you just love the love? On Valentine’s Day I think more people are aware of loneliness than love and it always makes me feel a little sad. All of us make comparisons at times, but it seems on Valentine’s Day many focus more on what’s lacking for them rather than focusing on what they have. Even if they’re in love, someone else’s love looks more fun, more romantic, or more exciting. If they’re single, they focus on disliking Valentine’s Day and feeling bad about what’s missing in their lives.
Today I challenge you to get out of your comfort zone and share some love, because everyone can use a little more. My challenge to get you out of your comfort zone is this: share ten Valentines before you go to bed tonight. I’d love to see you make homemade cards or gifts, but you can be creative and do whatever works. While you’re out, hand them to people walking down the street, leave them at someone’s door anonymously, surprise attendees at your next networking event and share a treat there, or buy ten gift cards at the local coffee shop and hand them out as customers come in.
Can you imagine all that could change in a day if we chose to intentionally share love, see people, and make them feel special? If you can’t think of anyone, my inbox is always open. I love receiving love notes. I keep them all and re-read them to motivate me on my long days and weeks.
This Valentine’s Day, share the love with a stranger and make their day! If each of the 4,000 subscribers on my list shared a little extra love this month, we might change the world. Please join me in spreading the love!
Who did you share love with? How did you spread a little love in the world today?
What is your favorite Valentine’s gift?
What is your favorite way to be loved? Is it through touch, conversation, quality time, acts of service, gifts, or words of affirmation?

Are you a mentor? Do you have a mentor? What does Mentorship mean to you?
Are you open to becoming a Mentor? What are you ready to open up to?
What are you open to? Do you know that you can learn something and teach something to everyone that crosses our path if we have an open mind. Are you open to learning something new? Are you open to a new friend? Are you open to expanding your career, maybe a promotion? How about a new workout routine! Are you open to trying a new recipe this week? What will you try new on this wonderful new week?

We don’t always get to choose the changes we will walk through in life but we always get to choose how we will react to them and if we will open are hearts to look for the good even in the painful ones. What change could you be open to this week? What is a painful change that after time you found the silver lining in? What is one thing you wish to change for the better this year? How can I help you get to where you want to go in 2018?

Words vs. Actions
I love listening to speakers and people who share their words, stories and the lessons they’ve learned in life.
When I was little, someone would say something, using powerful words and I would automatically believe them. As I got older and looked back on my life, I realized many people’s words didn’t match their actions. My boss would say one thing then do another. A client would tell me what mattered to them then live out a totally different lifestyle. Sometimes people tell me their family is the most important thing in their lives but they work all the time.
When I listen to other speakers, I’ll often hear them share words like happy, passionate, good, excited, and love. Then, they might not act any of them out. I heard a speaker the other day and they must have told the audience 30 times how passionate they were, but there was no passion in their presentation, and no energy in their words. I started to think: do I believe actions or words more?
Words have great power will you use yours to speak life or steal life from another person today? Once they come out we can not take them back.
Speak life, use your words for good to build people up and not tear them down!
I love the five love languages but my top is Quality of Time. You can tell me until you’re blue in the face that I matter to you but if you can’t spend time with me then it’s hard to believe your words. Actions always speak louder than words to me. What speaks loudest to you?
What does living your best life look like to you?
Do actions speak louder than words to you?
What is your love language? Words of Affirmation, Quality time. Physical Touch, Acts of Service or Gifts?
Do you wait for someone to show you they will do what they say they will or do you take them at their word?

Mother’s Day
How was your weekend? Did you celebrate the way you planned to? Were you celebrated the way you hoped you would be? Are you a mom? Do you have a mom? There are so many different kinds of moms out there: moms who raise their kids, moms who foster someone else’s kids, moms who step in and step up to become a stepmom to kids of someone they love & marry, moms of puppies, moms who place their babies for adoption because they hope & pray someone else can give their precious child a better life, moms to the neighborhood kids, women who become a mom figure to their church group, or moms who step up because for whatever reason a child’s mom isn’t able to give or nurture in the way they need it.
I truly believe it takes a village to raise, love, support and encourage our kids. Sometimes people feel threatened if someone starts to mother their child but I welcome it with open arms. My best friend and I joke (but are really serious) about how our kids call each other their second mom. They know they’ll always have a listening ear, food to eat and a welcome heart at either of our homes. This Mother’s Day week I’m focused on how blessed and grateful I am to be a mom to my kids. How proud I am of each of them and who they are as human beings, let alone what they’ve done with their lives.
My oldest, Matthew, is fun, funny, adventurous and loves to make new friends. I think he might take after his mother a bit. My daughter, Megan, well, she is wise, mature, organized and hard working. She graduated this weekend from college; I think she takes after her dad more. My youngest, Alex, tries so hard to act serious but really he’s very silly, he loves his own jokes just like me, he’s very focused like his dad and he’ll finish high school next month to go on to Iowa State. It’s so much more of who they are than what they’ve done that makes me proud to be their mom. My birth daughter finished her Masters’ this year…WOW. School was always a challenge for me. I’m so proud of her dedication, and the commitment to finish what you start even if it’s hard.
I love being a mom, especially when my kids come to me with a story, a question, or a new viewpoint and then tell me why they’re right. I’ve learned more from my kids than from any job. I have laughed more, cried more and worried more about them than anything else in my life and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My oldest tells me I worry less now. I told him I learned prayer works better than worry.
I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day and if you don’t have kids of your own, I hope you go love on someone else’s because kids can never get too much love.
